In rare cases, it is not possible to generate 3X4 results from the provided sample. This outcome occurs despite multiple processing attempts and is the result of biological and technical factors that affect sequencing.
DNA sequencing is a physical process that relies on molecular probes binding to specific regions of genetic material. For some individuals, the structure or composition of their DNA may make it more difficult for these probes to bind effectively. When binding cannot occur properly, the sequencing instruments are unable to read the genetic data with sufficient accuracy.
While most samples yield usable data on the first attempt, there are cases where additional attempts are required. The lab and quality control teams will make up to three total attempts to generate a report. These attempts may include reprocessing the original sample or requesting a new collection if necessary.
If, after three separate attempts, the lab is still unable to produce a readable report, a full refund will be issued. This policy ensures fairness in situations where, despite best efforts, genetic data cannot be captured reliably.
Although rare, sequencing failure is a known limitation of current genomic technology and is not typically related to the quality of the sample collection process. It is primarily influenced by individual genetic variation that affects how DNA responds to the sequencing process.
In some cases, a sample may not pass our initial lab processing due to a DNA extraction failure. This means that either the quality or the quantity of DNA in the sample was insufficient for testing. This can occur if organic compounds such as carbohydrates or phenolic acids are present in the sample which can come from food, drinks, makeup, tobacco, etc.
